Highway Wolf is casting a classic rock favorite into new waters with the release of its interpretation of Steely Dan's 1972 hit, “Reelin’ In The Years,” releasing July 10. True to the project's journey, the new recording offers a fresh perspective on one of rock's most enduring songs while preserving the lyrical bite that has resonated with listeners since its original release.
For frontman Mick Hellman, the connection to “Reelin’ In The Years” stretches back to his high school years, when a vinyl copy of Can’t Buy a Thrill became a permanent fixture on his turntable.
“‘Reelin’ In The Years’ stands out for those bitter, frustrated lyrics and gives voice to those thoughts that a jilted lover should let go of but just can’t,” Hellman shares, explaining the song’s appeal to himself and creative partners, Amber Morris and Tal Morris.
